This month you have all been very generous!
The Chicxulub Food Bank has received funds from a Candelaria Celebration, a garage sale at Neek Kaan, a book launch, a Superbowl party in Uyamatum, as well as bags of beans and rice for the Food Bank families. For this I thank you!
As it is known, the Day of Candelaria is celebrated on February 2, the day when Baby Jesus was presented at the temple according to the Jewish tradition. This act marks the end of the Christmas period. In this activity we do the traditional raising of Baby Jesus and we’ll celebrate with tamales and atole, food that since pre-Hispanic times was basic in every celebration.
It marks the mid-way
point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox, which aligns
with the pagan holiday of Imbolc. Since ancient times, this date was
thought to be a marker or predictor of the weather to come, which is why
it is also celebrated as Groundhog Day in the United States.
A very successful garage sale at Neek Kaan was held on Feb. 14th. More photos next month.
A Superbowl Party by the Uyamatun group raised funds for the Food Bank.
Feb. 19th Konrad Brinck had his 2nd book signing “Travelations” at David’s restaurant. The Food Bank received a % from each book sold.
The various events that the Food Bank is involved with has received many kgms of beans and rice and extras for our families.
I THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST AND GENEROSITY!
