Last week the youth group, Jeun’Espoir from Ottawa, spent four days building, sanding, and staining 10 new dressers for the Nursing Home. There are half a dozen that still require a second coat of stain, and four that require drawer rails installed. With a little bit of help from a carpenter we should be able to finish all the staining and drawer rails this Tuesday. Then the Madre will be able to distribute them to the residents.
The youth group also brought some heavier tools for us to use in the future, including cement trowels, a circular saw, a saws-all, and a drill. With these tools in our “arsenal” we will be able to complete a wider variety of chores. If you see a job that you think we could tackle, by all means suggest it. The madre is open to improvements that we can make. Watch for report from the group next newsletter
Jeun’Espoir provided some financial support for our efforts and as a result we have some cash to reimburse those who have purchased building materials. Last year our Tuesday morning members chipped in, and we used that to purchase paint and supplies. This year, we are again accepting donations.
This Tuesday, finishing the dressers is top priority. Our list also includes giving 2 dorm beds a second coat of white, sanding other beds, installing repainted fan blades, begining paint work around the rear side courtyard, plumbing repair, the restoration of an old armoire, and general yard cleanup.
