San Joachin Nursing Home

Busy month at San Jaochin! The arrival of Carnival saw the coronation and fiesta for the residents at the home.  The party was well attended and the entertainment was superb! There was a balance of young and old dancers and even the Progreso queen of “la tercera edad” (seniors). They thanked the Canadian volunteers that come to the Ancianos , “Sharon’s group” as they called it and also thanked three ladies who have been involved in bringing the Carnival to the Alberque for the past 40 years. They got a  well deserved ovation. Then we had the regular exercise groups with lots of participation.  One morning before the group started the residents received toques and scarves from Louise and Rod and as you can see from the photos they were very much appreciated and needed. Then we had the men’s group come on their regular Tuesdays to do garden cleanup,  sealing and painting thanks to Tony’s donation…Lots of repair work in the shower area by Vic, and painting edges in the dormitory by Ian and Duncan. The big piles of garbage in the back area were liquidated by the terminators, Andre and Serge. Steve Last but not least, Kay brought in more donations from Pauline and added them to the collection. This month has been very active and everyone had enjoyed...

Another busy spot this month.  The “regulars” are back for the exercise group and the men for the general maintenance.  The guys are Wayne, Tony, Dave, Andre S, Steve, Andre C, Serge, Dunc, Ian, Gordon, Dennis, David, Austin, Dan, Daniel and Vic.  And their ability to climb is great!  Our group of men returned this month to see to the garden areas and general maintenance.  There is additional energy that they bring with them. Wayne Steve Wayne, Duncan, Ian and Steve Steve   We also enjoyed the presence of 3 physiotherapy students, Jose, Irma and Rakel who are helping us out when they can. Scarlett arrived with a very generous donation from NJR (Not Just Tourists) from Ontario.  See attached report and photos. We now have several resistance bands to work with the seniors to strengthen various parts of their bodies and ours as well. Smiles all around!...

June Despensa

The packing went smoothly and we welcomed 2 new volunteers, David and Dalton to the group. The day was grey and overcastbut if any, only drizzle. The clients were treated to a surprise visit from Addy, the Queen of the Marina 2015. Get a load of this!!  Chixculub newbie Dalton with Addy, this year’s Reina de la Marina. Not too shabby for being here less than a week...
