Another visit to the soup kitchen on a Tues provided us with more information.

Doña Celia, who is now the day to day leader came with Pinky, a local taxista who was helping to bring the food to the comedore.

Tuesday the team does not cook as Eladio’s Restaurant in downtown Progreso donates prepared food every Tuesday and have been doing this for at least 4 years.

Currently the soup kitchen serves 43 meals Mon-Fri to 16 families.  If the clients are not able to come for their meal then a neighbour will pick up the food and deliver it.

Alvin (from the cruise ship) came with us to meet the staff.  He assisted with carrying your donations into the storage area and posed for photos with other community members present.

Did you know plomeria and flor de mayo are from the same family.  Alvin told us that in Hawaii the flowers from this tree are used for making leis, the welcome wreath.
